I had dinner with Manny and Sunita at an Ethiopian restaurant earlier this year. We got onto the topic of Chicago, and from there, Jeppson’s Malort. Manny and Sunita had never had it before; with a twinkle in my eye, I suggested we go across the street to the Green Mill Cocktail Lounge for a round of Malort shots. Sunita enthusiastically agreed, and Manny came along for the ride. A short time later, the spiky acrid tang of Malort was sliding down our throats to the sound of smooth jazz.
This is what true love looks like: being told of a horrible liquor, seeing the love of your life want to try it, and going along anyway even though you *know* it’s going to be disgusting. So, cheers to you, Manny and Sunita, and may your marriage be full of happiness and tranquility.
